And why you should do it a year before
Wedding season is in full swing during the summer months, but it’s also a time of many engagements.
Planning a wedding starts with choosing a date or location; for some, it begins with checking the makeup artist’s availability.
Here are a few reasons why you, as a bride, will benefit from booking your makeup artist/hairstylist (or any wedding supplier, to be honest) a year in advance:
- Availability on your wedding day: Contrary to popular belief, makeup artists are human beings who also have lives. They don’t only work because it’s fun but also to earn a living. Due to the specifics of freelance work, cash flow is very different from that of someone working on a contract. Additionally, we tend to plan our holidays around the wedding season well in advance to ensure we can take time off.
- More makeup artists to choose from: The most sought-after dates are booked well in advance. If your wedding day falls between May and mid-October, booking a makeup artist or at least starting your research a year before the wedding date will give you more options to choose from.
- Availability for the trial: Bridal makeup artists don’t usually do makeup trials on Saturdays because these are typically booked for weddings, especially from May onwards. However, the off-peak season may give you the option to book your trial on a Saturday, as there are fewer weddings during the winter.
- Summer holidays/school holidays/bank holidays: There is a good chance that your makeup artist is a parent or carer of school-aged children. If you are planning your wedding during half terms or school holidays, your chosen makeup artist may book time off as soon as the schools release the term dates.
Getting a makeup artist who you really enjoy being around on your wedding day is as much important. It is equally important as the makeup itself. That’s why having enough time to do your research and book a preview session to create your dream wedding day look is so important.
